The Influence of Psycho-Demographic Factors on Psychopathic Deviance Among Prison Inmates.
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examined the influence of psycho-demographic factors on psychopathic deviants.
Standardized psychopathic deviance scale, personality scale, social support scale and selfefficacy scale were administered to the respondents. A total number of four hypotheses were
investigated. Results from the regression analysis suggested several significant predictions of
psychopathic deviance. Predictor variables such as personality, social support and self-efficacy
had a joint influence on psychopathic deviance. Social support independently influenced
psychopathic deviants , so also personality, but self-efficacy did not. Personality characteristics
such as openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and
neuroticism. They also had a joint influence on psychopathic deviance. Results also showed that
there was no difference between male and female psychopathic deviants. Age, marriage and
gender did not have any influence on psychopathic deviants. It is recommended amongst
others that the government while making policies concerning rehabilitated inmates
should consider their personality characteristics, self-efficacy, and the social
support available to them.
