E-registration and Democratic Process in Nigeria: Challenges in Post — 2007 Nigeria

Abstract

The paper provides background information of the effort the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been making to checkmate electoral fraud in Nigeria electoral process. The paper identifies this process as e-registration, which seeks to register qualified Nigerian voters using Direct Data Capture Machines in order to eliminate fraudulent multiple registrations. The paper goes on to examine the benefits, problems, and challenges that faced the process when the exercise took place in Nigeria between October 2006 and February 2007. The paper concludes by identifying possible ways of correcting the problems that characterize the exercise for the benefits of Post 2007 Nigerian political process.
